An Atomic Oxygen Source with Improved Long-term Stability

Volume 34, Number 1 (Feb. 1980) Page 89-89

Houpt, P.M.; Baalhuis, G.H.W.

When attempting to improve a method for detecting hydrocarbons by their ultraviolet chemiluminescent reaction with atomic oxygen, we encountered the serious problem that the yield of the source of the atomic oxygen decreased with time. The source consists of a microwave gas discharge in a mixture of oxygen and argon. The atomic oxygen is transported to the reaction chamber by differential pumping.
