Absorption Spectroscopy of Fe(I) in Low-Pressure Oxyacetylene Flames

The Fe atomic absorption spectrum of low-pressure oxyacetylene flames seeded with iron pentacarbonyl solutions in benzene is studied. In order to arrive at quantitative results a continuum source is used and the "total absorption" data are analyzed with the curve of growth for a single spectral line. Absorption is measured from four low-lying a5D levels including the a5D4 ground state and two a5F levels, the latter lying almost 1 eV above the ground state.
