Both infrared and Raman techniques, the latter to a lesser extent, have been applied to in situ mechanism studies at the gas-solid interface. Few of these studies, however, have been extended to include structure elucidation of intermediates forming during gross gas-solid reactions. For this purpose a versatile high pressure metal cell suitable for use in both Raman and infrared gas-solid mechanism studies has been constructed and is described in this communication.
