In optimizing the clear radius of a KBr micropellet or liquid microcell measurements in an Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer, a tradeoff can be made between the reduction in the transmitted energy, which limits scale expansion, and the increased absorptivity resulting from an equal amount of sample spread over a smaller area.
