A Simple Device for the Reduction of Background in Single-Beam FT-IR Instruments
Volume 43, Number 4 (June 1989) Page 722-723
Golding, G.; Davis, B.
Single-beam FT-IR instruments require a background to be acquired prior to scanning of the sample. This background compensates for the effects of carbon dioxide and water vapor in the light path. The stability of the atmosphere in the sample compartment is thus critical. Variations in this atmosphere can occur as a result of the cycling of airconditioning units or the presence of additional individuals in the room. These circumstances result in a carbon dioxide or a water vapor spectrum being superimposed on the sample spectrum.
