In carbon tetrachloride and/or chloroform solutions, the behavior of the carbonyl stretching mode, νC=O, versus mole % CHCl3/CCl4 can be explained on the basis of the bulk dielectric effect of the solvent system and the existence of hydrogen-bonded complexes between solute and solvent and between solvent molecules.
