A New Technique for Preparing Films on Cell Window for Infrared Absorption Spectroscopy

Volume 17, Number 3 (May 1963) Page 74-75

Pan, Huo-Ping; Edwards, G.J.

The preparation of films for infrared spectroscopy has previously been accomplished by adding dropwise a solution of the desired compound in a volatile solvent to the cell window. The difficulties encountered with this technique are: 1) during solvent evaporation the solute is concentrated along the edge of the film and consequently the film is not uniform in thickness; 2) the process of preparing the film is time-consuming and tedious; and 3) the compound is difficult to recover from the cell window. A new method was developed to eliminate these difficulties.
