Applied Spectroscopy News

Noda Publication on Two Dimensional Correlation Spectroscopy (2D-COS) Exceeds 1000 Cites - Applied Spectroscopy is pleased to announce that Dr. Isao Noda's 1993 paper entitled, "Generalized Two-Dimensional Correlation Method Applicable to Infrared, Raman, and Other Types of Spectroscopy", [Appl. Spectrosc. 47(9), 1329-1336] has been cited over 1000 times (Web of Science).  2D-COS is a methodology used to understand changes that occur when a system under study is subjected to external perturbation.  Congratulations to SAS member Dr. Noda on this milestone!

Non-Destructive Analysis of Artwork - Dr. Claudia Conti et al. provide a new approach for art analysis and conservation in an Open Access paper in the June issue of Applied Spectroscopy: "Surface Raman Analysis of Thin Painted Layers". Presented is a micro-SORS method of data collection from the scattered light across the surface of paint layers. The team isolated the light signals of the individual paint layers in order to assess the chemical components of each layer. See our Twitter and Facebook feeds for additional information.

June 2014 Cover - Optical trapping confocal Raman microscopy is a spectroscopic method capable of acquiring information at several stages of development of dispersed particulate materials. For more information, see the article “Confocal Raman Microscopy for Investigating Synthesis and Characterization of Individual Optically Trapped Vinyl-Polymerized Surfactant Particles” by Jonathan J. Schaefer, Alexis C. Crawford, Marc D. Porter, and Joel M. Harris.
